Since I moved to America I have finally come to understand about the wonder of the Russian soul. We Russians are all poets! Poetry and rhymes are surely present in our lives from the moment we are born and we nurture this for all our lives.
First it was simple songs mothers sang for their babies, then we listened to children poems; later in school we memorized huge amounts of poetry. After a while rhyme had become an integral part of life. Russian people of all levels cannot live without it. They start making their own songs and poems to straighten out their feelings and to get relief. That is why some of genres are typical only for Russian culture.
Everybody has special strings inside which could be touched by poetry. It can change the world and open a side of you that you never knew you had.

I grew up in the ‘60s and ‘70s when America was in a Cold War with the Soviet Union. Even after the fall of the Soviet Union, I could never imagine myself being friends with a Russian, much less married to one! After visiting Marina in 1997 I discovered a Universal Truth (one of many) – people are people wherever you go. They all want and seek the same things in life. I have since come to appreciate and admire Russian culture. Given their long history of adversity (Czars, wars, communism, weather) Russian people generally try to find a bright spot in everything. Their culture demands that every high note, no matter how small, is celebrated.
